The ZENN (Zero Emission No Noise) Motor Company has developed a car that is 100% electric.
There is a lot of misinformation concerning electric vehicles. To get a better understanding of the facts, it’s important to also address a few of the myths.
Myth 1: Reliable electric vehicles are years away.
The ZENN is available for purchase right now in Quebéc.
Myth 2: Electric vehicles are little more than golf carts.
It’s true that many other electric vehicles are built on golf cart platforms, and have no roofs or doors. A ZENN, however, is different. It’s a fully-enclosed, three-door hatchback built on a proven, road-tested chassis. It has all the comfort features you would expect from a city vehicle.
Myth 3: It takes too long to charge an electric vehicle.
Charging a ZENN is as easy as charging your cell phone. Simply plug it into a conventional electric outlet at night and in the morning, it will be fully charged. If you’re short on time, as little as four hours charging gives you 80% capacity from a completely “empty” tank. Most importantly, you ‘fill up’ at home, and eliminate wasted time standing outside at the gas pump.
Myth 4: Electric vehicles are costly to maintain.
A ZENN has significantly less parts than a typical car. You’ll never need to change the oil, replace a filter or a muffler. And, of course, there’s no need for emission testing and the operating costs are up to a tenth of a typical car.
A ZENN runs solely on one system: electrical. In comparison, even the most efficient hybrid vehicle has two systems to look out for - internal combustion and electric. And they still have thousands of parts, including complex controllers needed to switch between the two systems.
Myth 5: Electric vehicles aren’t fast enough.
Designed to meet neighbourhood and urban transportation needs, the regulated maximum speed of a ZENN is 40 km/h. As such its intended use is busy urban areas, lower speed roads and places like gated communities and campuses where speed is neither necessary, desirable nor safe. (from ZENN's Myth's Debunked website)
Despite the rational for Myth Buster #5, this lead footed gal needs a bit more speed. For those of you who want to be green and even more cutting edge than the ZENN . . . you're going to have to wait. I read an article last spring in the local news about some inventors in my very own Pitt Meadows who had designed an electric car that went over 100km/h. Alas, now that I want to tell you about it, I can find no references anywhere!
In the meantime, consider that your traffic jammed one hour plus commute could cost you nothing with the ZENN and 40km/h may be more than you need on our highways.
Happy Driving!
