It's saturday, the sun is shining, Renny's washing the cars and we're having BBQ on the lot at lunch time - what more could you ask for?
When we started Winston Auto Group in the midst of the auto industry melt-down people thought we were crazy. Maybe we were; but we've survived our first winter and according to google alerts the industry is tracking for a 25% increase in sales . . . no wait a minute we're losing billions and all out of jobs?
There are many who posit that the financial meltdown was worsened by the constant worst-case scenario play-by-play in the media. I think there may be some truth to that. Now, as a new business owner who attempts to stay on top of her game making use of google alerts I'm just finding the media a little confusing. Are we failing or are we gaining?
Each day I get a google alert email on the topic "auto industry." At first I would get 10 or so articles of doom but as the economy recovers I'm getting this weird mixed bag of "things are worse than ever" (usually from the major news outlets) and good news recovery stories. It's enough to make you lose sleep at night if you pay too much attention to it.
So - here is a nugget of Gal in the Car Biz wisdom. When everyone around you is telling you the sky is falling - take a look at that sky - assess your own abilities and triple check your plans. When the assessment is complete, if your plans are solid and you believe in your idea - then do it. The end result may not be what you envisioned (for greater or poorer) but no matter what you won't have failed; because while everyone else was hiding out from the falling sky you will building your dreams.
Yes, the sun does make me wordy and reflective - back to cars new next post! In meantime, open those sunroofs, drop those tops and keep on driving happily!
